many of us here associate the word jealousy with envy. there is a big difference between the two. consider these examples.
i have a precious stone in my hand and i dont want you to look at it. this is jealousy.
i have a precious stone in my hand. you have a more precious stone. i try to take a glimpse of the stone in you hand and i want it to be mine. this is envy.
admit it. we tend to be like this.
we tend to envy the good fortune of others. for some reason we see it as an injustice to us.
a not-so-bright student is happy with his grades until he finds out that his seatmate got better ones. a young women considers herself lucky to have landed a job within a month after her graduation until she learns that her classmate found one that paid higher.
how happy we wpuld be if we only learn of this wisdom parable: "i have no shoes so i complained, until i found someone without feet". there would be less tension in this life if people count their blessings rather than their lacks or misfortunes.
a thankful heart never ceases to count the innumerable blessings bestowed upon us. on the other hand, if we keep an eye out for what others have, we become miserable.
